F-4E Air-to-Air Intercepts: Practice – Phantom Phamiliarisation VII

After the recap of basic notions of intercepts and geometry of Part VI, we now see how things are put into practice.

The last part of the Phantom Phamiliarisation series demonstrates how simple intercepts can be executed using Pulse radar and a b-scope. The concepts used have been explained in Part VI, but the modus operandi takes advantage of the BDHI to determine the angles, plus assumptions when data are unknown.

There is a lot more to cover about the Phantom II. Still, I will defer more thorough and detailed articles and videos to after the module’s release, as many micro and macro details change depending on the version of the Phantom in use and its avionics.
Nevertheless, this series should have allowed you to grasp the basics of this venerable fighter, starting from a general look to the cockpit to the peculiarities of the F-4E, to the radar and its usage in combat.
