The excellent bullseye simulator created by LG “Bruno” Barons, introduced a few months ago, has now some very welcomed company:
- TACAN/HSI Simulator.
This tool allows players to familiarise themselves with two fundamental pieces of avionics used in almost every situation: the TACAN and the HSI.
The TACAN, short for “TACtical Aviation Navigation” system, is an intuitive yet powerful navigation device that provides bearing and, optionally, range, depending on the aircraft involved.
The HSI, acronym for Horizontal Situation Indicator, is the primary navigation tool, especially in aircraft not equipped with a HUD. - APQ-120 Simulator.
The radar mounted in the F-4E Phantom II is ancient compared to the various F/A-18 or F-16. The depth and unparalleled fidelity of Heatblur’s work make this radar particularly challenging, especially for new players. Moreover, the APQ-120 had to be “squeezed” to allow fitting an internal gun. Note that this tool gathers information from the Bullseye trainer linked above.

These tools are excellent means of practising some “mental gymnastics”, getting used to simple calculations and learning shortcuts to simplify in-game life. For example, how to quickly correlate picture to radar and transform Bullseye and BRAA into ATA.
If you unsure about how to use them, check the instructions included in each tool.
