Training Centre – Video Landing Page

This page aims to help you find the information you need to understand the video you were watching. Videos (and articles) cannot refresh every related concept every time: they would soon become tedious for the regular viewer and also extremely long. A video discussing an aspect of geometry, for example, should refresh several hundred pages of documents every time!
This page reorganises most of my content following different criteria. Get in touch if you feel lost or cannot find what you are looking for.

New Starters

If you are completely new to flight simulation games, check the Back to Basics series in this page. Topics covered span from Latitude and Longitude and different representation formats, to Rate of Closure (VC), PPI vs B-scope radar display, and so on.

Geometry, Air Combat, and Advanced Topics

This is the main page where advanced information can be found: Procedures and Operations. It includes “all things Air Combat”, such as:

  • Definitions: in case you get lost through the neverending list of acronyms;
  • Air Combat bite-sized: a series of very short videos covering several must-know topics of Air Combat, such as Drift and angles;
  • BVR Timeline 2023: a whole new study about the BVR Timeline made in 2023, a few years after the first take. I am happy to say this adaptation of real concepts to a videogame has received an unexpected amount of positive feedback from present and former crews. Unfortunately, I have not completed the series yet due to lack of interest from the players themselves;
  • Simplified approaches: if you are new to the world of simulated air combat, these simplified takes on intercepts and timelines may help you;
  • Intercept Geometry: a study started in 2020 and still ongoing, covering all aspects of Intercept Geometry, and organised in inverse chronological order using material from 2017 to the 60s.

This page is where you progress, after having covered the basics, to finally enter the fascinating world of Air Combat. Minor warning: the amount of concepts to learn is not irrelevant (hence why so many topics cannot be refreshed in every video). Take your time and feel free to get in touch if you need some help.

VBS Volume I

If you prefer a more “incremental” approach to content then my manual/book may help you. Its main goal was trying to satisfy exactly this need and it includes a lot of content not yet present on this website.
Although the main focus is the F-14 Tomcat, it includes many other topics, such as:

  • Basic principles of aviation;
  • Navigation: pilotage, dead reckoning, wing effects, et cetera;
  • Air-to-air intercepts and air combat;
  • Air-to-ground: killboxes, CAS (Close Air Support), and much more.

Content by Category

The menu on the left (on a PC monitor), shows every category used in this website. Here are the categories referencing various aircraft:

Articles are ordered by date. Videos related to the articles are linked inside the articles themselves.
Series of related articles, for instance this mini-series about F-14 and Jamming effects, report the list of chapters at the top of the page.
